FOG HARVESTING CONCEPT
SWIRL
Festo, a worldwide innovation leading technology company, in their strive to combat climate change have developed a fog harvesting material to battle water scarcity in affected populated areas. The drought in Cape Town left people in despair and out of desperation, residents needed alternative methods of water collection.
Festo expanded on the fog harvesting concept with introducing its woven fog harvesting material and combining biomimicry design principles to create a new approach.

SWIRL is the concept of fog harvesting which utilizes the design principles of aero, hydro and biomimetic design. The design drawn up using biomimicry principles which pulls inspiration from natural systems, SWIRL takes the propeller form from a shark’s intestine which is compressed and spiraled to shorten the intestine length. In order to achieve better absorption in smaller periods of time, which allows for more surface area to be created internally.

The intestine design has been re-engineered to allow for a maximum contact between the water source and material to accumulate a better result. The hydro collection principles utilizes flow dynamics in conjunction with aerodynamic principles to create a suction for the propeller to draw in more fog and collect more water whilst lessening any spillage.
CONTEMPORARY KETTLE DESIGN
UOVO
Alessi, a prestigious houseware and kitchen utensil company in Italy. It is well-known for setting trends in history for famously designed products that set standards in different eras of design.
The objective of this project was to combine Alessi’s aesthetic, Italian design style and heritage, with African culture and ancestry.
It is an American mid-century classic design blended with the style of post space race styling. The design of the base drawn from the ostrich egg, styled handle is derived from the traditional African water gourd used as a water container or musical instrument. Combined with ergonomic design principles and finished off with the retro American classic motor car coloring which utilized the silver metal strip to break colors as illustrated in the design.
CONTEMPORARY LAMP DESIGN
WING TIP
The Wing Tip lamp design style is derived from the beauty of nature, the shape and wing motion of a Yellow Jacket wasp goes unnoticed but, in this sense, we evoke the natural motion and elegant flow of its flight. Along with drawing further inspiration from its body the base’s shape and structure is derived from the Yellow Jacket’s thorax, while the colouring draw inspiration from the high-class brand Christian Dior which is famous for its red accent colouring on their products.
